The warmer weather is here, time to get the hamper packed and enjoy a picnic with friends & family – where better than in Herts, Beds & Bucks! Here’s a pick of some of our favourite local picnic spots, if you’ve not checked them out yet then do try them for your next picnic.
Ashridge Estate
Full of lots of lovely picnic spots, in the woods and out in the field, Ashridge is a perfect location for a picnic for all the family. Lots of space to run around and explore, and then plenty of space set up base & enjoy. Also a favourite of our member Resolve to Play.
Where? Moneybury Hill, Ringshall, Near Berkhamsted, Hertfordshire, HP4 1LT
Parking: Free parking available (donations to National Trust welcome)
Facilities: Toilets are open daily between 10am and 5pm, alongwith the Visitor Centre and shop
Food & drink: Selection of hot and cold food, drink and snacks seven days a week, from 10am – 4pm

Wendover Woods
A popular picnic location and it’s not hard to see why! So much space to set up base, plus the play trail for the kids to explore. They also have BBQ areas for hire (portable BBQs are prohibited); areas can be booked online & are for up to 30 people.

Rushmere Country Park
The field is the perfect place to picnic; if you’re early you may even be able to grab a picnic bench. Then do explore the woods, find fairy doors, the giant’s chair & beautiful wood sculptures.

Wigginton Sports Field
A lovely space for a family picnic with the playground and lots of space to play games on the field. Depending on the time of your visit you may also be able to get some picnic extras from the Community Shop, or if you fancy an apres picnic drink why not head to The Greyhound.

Aston Clinton Park
Our firm favourite is Aston Clinton Park. With lots of space to set up base (with some benches situated around the park too), the playground, skate park & river make it a perfect place to keep everyone entertained. Cafe in the Park also has a great selection of food & ice creams.
